I live in Brisbane and theres a Radio Station called "Tripple M"
and the radio station resently played Tubular Bells. The version I heard was Mike Olfield saying the names of the instruments (e.g 2 Slightly Distorted Guitars, Mandoline) But I have no idea what the song "version/edit" is called.

Can someone please tell me what it's called?

Thanks

Sure it was Mike?

For every (re-)mix of the original recording, MC should be Viv' Stanshall.  Then we have OTB and the BBC TV live version from the 'Elements' DVD, for which I'm not sure of the MC.
Next comes the updated version as 'The Bell' from TB II, which exists as single remix with several different MCs (even spanish and German versions, and also one with Viv) - recognizable (if not from the different music) from the slightly modernized instruments (digital sound processor, two slightly sampled guitars).
Finally, there's TB2003, with John Cleese as MC.

There was a radio broadcast version, in the late 80s I think.  Not sure who the MC was on that, but it sounded like deejay John Peel to me.

I live in Adelaide and I can't believe MMM played Tubular Bells, how long was it? I know they play Moonlight Shadow sometimes. I don't listen to MMM but I have tried to get JJJ to play Mike with no luck, they played Moonlight Shadow once when they were having a 'moon' theme and the DJ said, "I bet thats the first time you have ever heard Mike Oldfield on JJJ and it will be the last too!" I can't imagine they would think that MS was indicative of Mikes style because it is so far removed from what he is really all about it makes me laugh!

A funny yet embarrassing story, I was standing in the local music store when a man walked in and asked the lady behind the counter if she knew who did Moonlight Shadow, my heart jumped a beat as I yelled across the room, "Mike Oldfield". He said, but it's a woman. Told him Mike was an instrumentalist who features singers on his albums, this one being Maggie Reilly. Said I was his biggest fan!, bad move because the next question he asked me was the name of the album and for the life of me I could not think which one it was. I had to look through all my cds when I got home!! Me and my big mouth!! The shop assistant had no idea either.

"Mike Oldfield". He said, but it's a woman.

It's not very common at all to have a male-named band or artist have a hit song with a female vocalist, at least as far as I know.

I can't think of any other examples right now, other than the few Alan Parsons Project songs on "Eve" and elsewhere sung by Claire Torey or another female vocalist. However, none of these were successful singles that I know of.

Then there are the bands where the lead singer is different from the guy in the name of the band. I bet that many think that Mike Rutherford sings Mike and the Mechanic's "Living Years" and "Silent Running", and that it is J. Geils (not Peter Wolf) singing those old J Geils Band hits. And, how many have thought that Ian Anderson's name was Jethro Tull?

Alan Parsons himself of course doesn't sing lead vocals on any of the songs he ever did with his Project. Yet there are still some friends of mine here quoting Alan Parsons as the lead singer of "Eye in the Sky". :) And about Mike & the Mechanics - yes, no-one seems to know who Paul Carrack is. :)

There is, however, a hit song which features a female vocalist (albeit uncredited), but signed with a man's name: "19" by Paul Hardcastle. AFAIK Tessa Niles sung vocals on the original version [which was MO-based, by the way :)], all the other voices were from old newsreels footage, Mr. Paul Hardcastle didn't sing or speak anything. :D He didn't ever do the narration in the more-contemporary-sounding versions (e.g. the "Dance Mix") that came out after the original one.

I thought Mike Rutherford sang "In the Living Years".

Sorry I took this thread off topic.

Tracy.

Mike did a session on the Nicky Campbell Show with an updated version of Tubular Bells where he (or Nicky Campbell) played MC.
