Been years since I wrote a post here.

What I think Mike should do (obviously, only in the precise case he wanted or could be bothered to do that) is a homage to his fans.

What do I mean with that? Well.

I've been to two Mike's gigs in my life, here in Madrid both, Tubular Bells 2 and Tubular Bells 3. The TB2 one was the best music event I've ever been, and I cried when listened to 'Sentinel' and saw Mike playing guitar. The TB3 was in Leganés, in a Plaza de Toros and I took my former girlfriend who passed from silly Spanish teen pop to be a number 1 fan of him. In fact, you could hear her screaming in recognition of the tunes if you by chance have been there.

Well, the other day I was on the underground listening to my top-quality, extremely economic MP3 engine which is my brain. And I love Tubular Bells, Moonlight Shadow, and everything Mike will play will be my favourite from any other musician. But I was 'listening' to another record, and making a picture in my mind.

Now, here all the fans. Imagine the gig, all the lights go down, the smoke is everywhere... and an organ chord starts filling the air. You have no idea what does it remind to you. But now a xylophone starts plucking, and a flute breaks the air... you look to your friend... your friend looks at you... what is that? Which song? Amarok? Orabidoo? No, it's Taurus 1...?

After a while, a very deep bass appears, slow, static, marking long notes and making everything vibrate... IT'S THE BEGINNING OF HERGEST RIDGE!!!!

Imagine the basses, the guitars, the high-quality PRS' and Fenders playing the dynamics melodies and solos of the album, and then... the trumpet with the militar drum... and then, the oboe with the harp...

Would Mike think it wouldn't reach success??? His fans know the albums!!! Can you imagine the choir, at the end of the beautiful guitar solo, the bass solo just before... the end, with the choir and the piano, and the flute again... man, it would make people crazy and out of their minds!!!

I think Mike doesn't need to present himself or even to publicit a lot. Everybody know him. Almost everybody knows some of his obscure albums. Can you imagine the B-side of Hergest Ridge, the "electric storm" with the modern sounds of today?? With drums even...? I was even thinking of him re-recording Hergest Ridge.

Besides Hergest Ridge. What about sections from Incantations. Amarok. Taurus II... do you imagine the bagpipes of Taurus II or Ommadawn live??

Mike has loads of time to make beautiful things, this is only one I thought of, but they could be millions. He has written his biography, and made an orchestral record. I'm sure both are great, look forward to get them. But I'm sure he´ll keep on making great things, and although I know the experience of 'Exposed' was a bit expensive and frustrating, I'm sure things could be done well in a next time, and the thought of the whole of 'Hergest Ridge' played live sends shivers through my spine as I'm very happy and always will be, that he recorded that album when he retired after Tubular Bells' success to rest and meditate in Wales.

I don't think that Mike will ever play HR live, and I also don't think he will ever re-record it. As far as I know, he doesn't think very highly of that album.

Over the years I too have often had mad ideas for a 'fantasy' MO concert. What about Music from the Balcony played live? What about the Lake played live somewhere in the Alps?

Actually the one fantasy live gig I've always thought he could genuinely pull off is Glastonbury. He could have done brilliantly I think and I say could have done because I've just read that there's going to be a concerted effort from the organisers from now on to do away with some of the older acts they get because they want a younger less middle class audience (at £125 a ticket they've got to be kidding)
But perhaps Mike could yet have a shot at it. Then again all these things are in his hands and he's more interested in his motorbikes and model helicopters so we can but dream on.

Hergest Ridge is pure  perfection as it is :)  :D , no need to re-record it. However I would love to hear it played live, what setting could be more appropriate than Hergest Ridge, however I can't really see all the instruments needed getting carried up there.

I'm going slightly mad,
It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad

If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.
