We all know he did a lot of styles from classical to pop and even re-playing. So now he don't really know what to do next, so he decide to dedicate his next album for the fans: he will try to make the best from what everybody wants.

What are your suggestions?

It can range from what kind of instruments he should use, instrumental or vocal, long or short compositions, what kind of mood (happy or dark), even a follow up of an existing album (TSODE II, complete the Ommadawn/Amarok trilogy, Tubular Bells IV) or a prequel to QE2: QE1.

I'd say "surprise me!" - with a preference for a space orientation and electronic instruments.

I'd say go back to the repitition and defined sections of Incantations.

But that is what you expected me to say.

Was there a reason to this post?

Art rock! Write art rock songs, hire art rock musicians and play those screeching guitar solos.

Consult Robert Fripp. Don't fear fusion.

Haha...what? Was it Fripp or Fusion that you didn't like? Or both?

Misquoting a credit from Queen's A Night at the Opera liner notes... guitars, guitars, guitars and more guitars. :D  Not ONLY guitars, of course [I definitely don't want a Guitars II!! :O], but I'd like the unmistakable Oldfieldian sound on his 6- and 12-strings to dominate over all everything else. And very little electronics, please... he's been through those, with excellent results (L+S), but one such album is enough for me. In other words:  Mike, get a drummer!! :)

@ nightspore: better not turn Mike into a space rock kind of guy, otherwise he'll end up playing in a PinkFloydish band. I hope not. And, as I said above, I'd like electronics to be limited to the bare necessities, as Baloo sang in that Disney movie. :)

I'd also like one or two vocal songs sung by some up-and-coming vocalists [no operatic voices à la Hayley Westenra, please!], but not more than one or two. And no "Moonlight Shadow" or "Foreign Affair" rehashes, please. :D

Yes, I'd like an Amarok 2 and hear Mike have some fun, with the additional prop sounds - from family and boat.

Like, the nah of the horse, the squawk of the parrot, the bark of the dog, the barp of the fog horn, the crash of the waves, the whistle of a ship's whistle, the larking around of children, the splash in the water, the patter of rain, the hum of air conditioning, more brushing of teeth ..and more dancing feet...

Great ideas all, You could pinch a bit of them all and get a great double album.
All in all i will go with 20 % of Lars,19.7% NS and the rest Weeeg's

Actually I'd like an album that I like from the first listen,
By the third listen I'm so hooked I"m willing to take days off work just to adsorb its utter brilliance .

And a Real Drummer someone call Simon & see if he's free :D

Just a thought :D
If the next album was done Light + Shade style and the tittle was indeed Tele + Caster.

Side One "Tele" could be entirely inspired by Kojack its not too much of a stretch we already have frooty loops so chupa-chup is not inconceivable and maybe a cover  of the theme from O.H.S.S
to round it off.

Side Two "Caster" would be a Single 61 min track inspired by Mikes Sailing (And Fishing) off the coast of you know where. (Waiting for Cousteau with Sceaming Guitars and progged up anyone) .

A fan can dream

Yes, of course.

I wanted to know what everyone is dreaming about a new Mike album and also what everybody can't stand anymore.

By pushing a little bit, maybe Fanny (or Mike) will see this thread and all our suggestions could eventually be seriously taken into consideration...

But still, I think a composer must do what he feel is right with the inspiration of the moment before trying to please everyone...this thread is basically just for fun. But in any case, the thread will be there...

And about my own suggestion, I think nightspore gave the right way to say it: Surprise me! And also, Ugo suggested about a real drummer: it would be great an album full of percussions, with very imaginative and intense beats, mixed with catching melodies. An album with plenty of energy.

I think I would like to hear him work with people again. I understand that if you have the technology then if you want to make music it's much  easier to sit in your studio and get the job done than have to get a session together but really some acoustic drums, real vocals and a second producer would perhaps add some energy to any new project.

I'd flattered and worried at the same time. I think I like it better when he is introverted, isn't influenced and think and do his own way. In that respect, umbrellas in the studio might be a good sign of things to come.

For me,just let it flow what's on your mind...all these amazing experiences that he's been into on the past years can be reflected on his creative process...

Umbrellas in the studio might be a good sign of things to come.

Makes you wonder if the Umbrellas are symbolic as well?
Does he still consider himself the Man in the Rain!
Or on the other hand are they inspiration for a "Stickin to his Guns" approach .
Either way Protective  ;)

Work with a producer. Not necessarily a big-name person (often a glorified programmer/synth player) but just someone to bounce ideas off as you go along who won't always necessarily always agree. Even if it's someone to rail against, the best work seems to come from strong emotions.

Lots of people are doing some really interesting things with music and technology, have a listen to some of it. Listen to some of the year-end album/song podcasts from NPR or BBC 6music.

Do the recording once, then scrap it and start again (on the basis that it worked well with Ommadawn).

How about The Millennium Bell 2? Actually, I suppose there's a real possibility the next album will contain "Song for Survuval". I hope so, as I'm very fond of it - although the native singing needs some tweaking.
