There are a few that sprang to mind when I was considering my choice:

The Flower Kings - 'Retropolis' is a great play on words.

Anathema - 'A Fine Day to Exit' is quite chilling when one considers what those words mean.

Ozric Tentacles - 'Pungent Effulgent' is just plain mad!

But my favourite is:

Frank Zappa - 'Lumpy Gravy'. What a wonderful image that title conjures up!  ;)

My top five, in reverse order:
5. Jeff Wayne - War of the Worlds: very spooky in places
4. Yes - Keys to Ascension: Fantastic concert DVD, my favourite versions of most of their best songs
3. Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live: One of my best childhood memories.
2. Roger Waters - Live in the Flesh: This one got me into Pink Floyd, another breathtaking concert.

Before I get to number 1, I know that most of these are live concerts. If I just limit this to studio albums, I get:

5. Moby - Play: Brilliantly eclectic
4. The Who - Who's Next: Yeah!
3. Pink Floyd - Animals: Angry and wonderful
2. Jeff Waye - War of the Worlds

But the all time favourite: Mike Oldfield - Amarok: For all the reasons I said in this topic earlier today.

Sorry - I got the topic's meaning entirely wrong. :) My all-time favourite album titles are The Beatles' "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", one of the longest album titles that everybody can remember ;), and "A Night at the Opera" by Queen, which seems to sum up perfectly the musical content of that album.

Lift your skinny fists like Antennas to Heaven - God Speed you Black Emperor.

And one I read yesterday I can't remember, have to go find it, BRB.

PS-Tansy, you can remove the whole script of that second post but the actual post will stay there and insist you enter a text so you can just write 'sorry' or something, otherwise just leave as is.

Oops, I've managed to misread the title of this topic. I just posted what my favourite albums were, instead of my favourite album titles.   :/
Sorry about that.

I must admit "Hot Rats" is my favorite LP title ever. I don't like Zappa much though.

Imagine meeting....hot rats!

Zappa is possibly the only other musician that is on a par with Mike.
If you like Mike then Zappa will have a track somewhere for YOU!

Please feel free to tell me what to like...

OK, what I generally don't like about Zappa is the over-emphasis on humour and the overall american tone of his music. Where should I begin?
I haven't heard that much Zappa BTW, just a little bit here and there from all the eras.

Humour does belong in music!

My friends sometimes say to me (they don't like zappa) 'how can you still find that funny after hearing it so many times?'  well the music, like mikes, is so full of different things that you hear something different everytime and is so intricate and interesting.

as for the over-american thing - frank was constantly taking the piss out of everything american. but maybe its this fixation you don't like.

if you want something that is not 'funny' - get Hot Rats, there is only one track with a vocal (from captain beefheart) - AND IT'S TOTALLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm.  I've heard songs that have made me think it does and others that make me think it doesn't.  I do enjoy the Bonzo Dog Band, but some of Zappa's "toilet humour" wers a little thin in my opinion.

Being a Mike Oldfield fan kind of means that you are more adventurous than your usual rock music fan.  He is not exactly the coolest thing in town.  Not listening to what the mainstream say is cool is one thing im sure we all have in common on this site.  Im sure we've all done a bit of musical exploration in our lives but i can tell you that there is far more to zappa than toilet humour.

GO CHECK HIM OUT

HE is a genius!!

But if you don't like him i guess no-one is gonna die.

Here is an example of a Zappa lyrics that are not toilet humour and are scarily relevant to the times we are living in NOW (please consider it was written in 1973!!;)

I'm the slime

I am gross and perverted
Im obsessed n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little has changed
Im the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you cant look away
I make you think Im delicious
With the stuff that I say
Im the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
Im the slime oozin out
From your TV set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we dont need you
Dont go for help . . . no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

Thats right, folks . . .
Dont touch that dial

Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin along on your livin room floor

I am the slime from your video
Cant stop the slime, people, lookit me go

I am the slime from your video
Oozin along on your livin room floor

I am the slime from your video
Cant stop the slime, people, lookit me go

This title is not my favorite, but it is up there. I've never even heard the actual record.

It is a concert album by Ted Nugent:

Intensities in Ten Cities

i had never noticed this before i saw that album
