Quote (Rob A @ Nov. 13 2005, 08:55) | hey guys, new here but been a fan of mike for almost 3 years now, i was just wandering if you guys could advise me on which album to get next? i love his guitar work on things like man in the rain, tears of an angel, in dulce jubilo, outcast etc.... and also the atmosphere of the kind of albums like TB3 and light and shade. im not too fond on albums like amerok, ommadawn etc... coz they tend to start abit slow for me.
judging by this, what albums could you reccommend?
i have guitars, TB3, light and shade, incantations, TB1, TB2, ommadawn, amerok and a few best of.
thanks guys |
Hi Welcome to TubularBoard Rob .
Re albums have you got TSODE, I'd also recommend Hergest Ridge. I know it may have a bit of a slow start for your ears, but WOW, (like Ommadawn) HR really builds into something FANTASTIC.
HR is a very pastoral album influenced by the area of English countryside , where Mike was living at the time. In fact from The Beacon Mike would have outstanding views over Hergest Ridge, where he would often go for walks and fly his model gliders.
On side 2 of Hergest Ridge there's the "Thunderstorm" or "Martian" Section which is 6 minutes of pure energy, just makes me want to energetically dance.
I had a holiday in Kington back in July, I took a portable CD player up The Ridge , whilst playing Hergest Ridge, WOW such FREEDOM, dancing on The Ridge . I know that's why I love Kington/Hergest Ridge area so much. I was until recently caring for a severly disabled husband, he now has professional live in carers, as after eight years I was too physically /mentally exhausted to provide such a level of care, ( to continue would'nt benefit myself or him).
You may not like HR on first listen, but it certainally grows on you. If you get the opportunity to visit The Ridge then go, it's well worth it.
-------------- I'm going slightly mad, It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad
If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.
I'm challenging taboos surrounding mental health
