I considered making a poll, but there is so many choices..

What person within MO´s sphere do you think is most talented at their job/skills and why?

It could be such as Tom Newman, Maggie Reilly, his sister Sally, Trevor Horn, Paddy Moloney, Simon Philips, Karl Jenkins, and the list goes on and on..

My choice has nothing to do with his music but the business behind Mike Oldfield and I think Richard Branson is ranging high.
He´s an entrepreneur, he saw the possibilities in MO´s music when all other was kicking the young lad when he presented his idea. Branson has a very wide range of businesses and is just about to launch spaceflights for civilians, all in all a very talented man with visions..

Who´s your choice?

Karl Jenkins. Why? Well, I think it's pretty obvious. :)

I'd have to go with Maggie Reilly. Albums like Discovery would have sounded totally different with someone else singing. I don't think the feeling would have been as intense.

My choice would be David Bedford, although there are many, many very talented people on that list. Pierre Moerlen also comes to mind... Maggie Reilly certainly, Simon Phillips and Morris Pert and obviously Phil Collins, Jon Anderson, and a ton of people I forgot... but still, I don't think Mike's career would have been the same if it wasn't for David Bedford and the insight he managed to pass on to Mike. His own albums are testimony to just how much of an influence he was on Mike.

Close tie between Clodagh Simmons and Bridget St John, two incredible singers and songwriters. Mike worked with a lot of talented and creative studio musicians and producers, but no other artists in the same league as Clodagh or Bridget.

Branson is also a good choice. The world needs more businessmen like him.

Huhuhu, what about Aled Jones?? Take a look at this:

Pictures in the Dark he saw all around

Check out his rendition of a popular track from Enya: 'Marble Halls'. I think it's fantastic! He seems to be quite a good singer.

Vivian Stanshall.  The Peter Cook of music (as Mike has described him).  A complete one-off, and an underrated one at that.

I`ve got to agree on Stanshall Smillsoid, the man was enormously talented. And that`s a great quote from Mike there,I`ve never heard that one before.Branson is a good call as well of course. But I think the most important people Mike worked with on a musical level were probably Tom Newman & Simon Heyworth. You know from what I`ve read I think those guys gave Mike a lot of confidence in a number of sections of Tubular Bells he was unsure of at the time. Not to mention Tom`s equaly as important role regarding Amarok as well.

I would add Trevor Key. Since he died the covers of the albums have never been the same. He was the one who conceived the Tubular Bells shape, and also made almost all the covers till i think TB2, with the highlights of 'Platinum', 'Crises' or 'Hergest Ridge'.

My vote goes to Les Penning for those early works. Sebastian Bell for Incantations/Exposed. David Bedford for the same reason as Les Penning, and Tom Newman because "Fine Old Tom" has some little diamonds and more than the odd pearl.
