I've got this picture from oldfieldmike.de (which doesn't excist anymore unfortunately). The title is "Mike with V". Does somebody know who this is?

Also, does somebody know where and when this picture was taken? It seems to me the recordings of Orchestral Tubular Bells, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure who it is, but I'm sure he's just about to say "This young man does not need another drink!".

:p  Or perhaps the assistant director who yells "and... action!"

My Caption:

Sorry, no idea who he is, looks like the director type though.

He looks just a little like Dean Stockwell, so I figured that he's Sam Beckett's invisible friend who is about to tell Sam where he will quantum-leap next.

"Sam, I know you were really looking forward to playing Ommadawn on tour, but Ziggy says that you are about to leap into David Lee Roth any second. A rotten break..."

This is the conductor Vernon Handley. It's a strange pic of him (and M). (By the way this is my first post here - hello!;).

It was probably taken at the sessions for David Bedford's 'Star's End', and I guess is a really unique picture. Thanks for posting it!

Vernon Handley (normally nicknamed 'Tod';) is one of the best-loved conductors of English music, most famous for his recordings of music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Arnold Bax, Elgar, Delius, Holst - and has made hundreds of 'classical' recordings. 'Star's End' was made early on in his recording career, before his really great albums were made.

So I looked it up and this picture would probably be in Barking Town Hall, August 1974 were Star's End was recorded. Or it could be the Manor... but the Manor looked different from the inside right?

Poor Mike, why is everyone being so horrible to him  :/ .

At first I thought the other bloke in the picture was perhaps an older brother of Charles Kennedy, until recently leader of the Liberal Democrats (UK political party) , an opposition party to the government,  now I know he's the renowned conductor Vernon Handley.

BTW I happen to like that pic of Mike, must be that long hair
;)  :) . Thanks for sharing it Blue Dolphin.  BTW like your avatar pic, where do you keep finding all these pics of Mike?

Did he also record "Dogstar" from "Tubular Bones" there?

Yeah, Mike looked the coolest with his long hair. It's groovy :) I've got long hair too.

But about the pictures: they're all from the (now gone) oldfieldmike.de website. So thanks to the webmaster to that! But it's a big collection, maybe I can put it online? :)

Oh my God, poor Mikey. While I adored his 'Jesus' look he looks so miserable in this photo. Obviously consumed with panic attacks and an inability to cope with his new found fame. He looks like he has not slept for a month or has just polished off two bottles of vodka or has been punched in the face. I know which is most likely closest to the truth but I would not like to say.
