Well, not long now until the Football World Cup. Second only to the Olympics for a world wide sporting event, and most of our fellow Mike fans will have teams playing. Mike has not said if he's a fan of the game, but I'm sure many of us are.

So, here's your chance to support your countries team, or to make some pun's with song titles, or to whinge (along with my wife) about how it's all rubbish.

To steal a song pun from Korg.."When the Sven's on Fire", or my own favourite, "Five yards out, just keep on scoreing through".

With or without Rooney, the England team have a great chance of getting through, but we always seem to fall at the last fence, and I don't see this time being any different. Tati's Brazil will do well, and Mike has many German and Spanish fans who will support their teams. Shame that there arent many scandinavian teams playing.

Mike has not said if he's a fan of the game, but I'm sure many of us are.

I did read that Mike supports "The Biscuitmen"also known as "The Royals" ,or in other words Reading FC.  Reading town are known as the Biscuit Men due to Huntley and Palmer's biscuit manufacturers long association with the town. I remember my Nan and Grandad having a H&P tin full of biscuits, happy times of being a kid  :)

www.readingmusem.org.uk/galleries/handp.htm
www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_FC

It's interesting to see the list of Reading players included Sir Matt Busby,  Luton born Kerry Dixon, also of Luton Town and Chelsea, and the unfortunately named Steve Death, who holds the Football League record for the longest time without a  conceding a goal ,1103 mins   :) , during his 10 year stint as Royals goalkeeper.

Why is it Luton Town a.k.a The Hatters were so often defeated by The Royals???, that is until 17 Feb this year.

I would say that I should really support Luton being as they're my hometown team, but I don't particularly  like Luton the town,(not the football team) as the town is a  polluted   craphole IMHO.

About football, I'm not an avid follower of football, butI do sometimes surprise myself with how much I do know about  the game.  I find if I'm in football mood I'll happily sit and watch a game.  During the World Cup I'll find that if I go to someones house andthey have football on TV I often find myself getting into the match, even if England aren't playing.

I'm sure Mike will be supporting England.   BTW it would be great for England to win the World Cup 40 years on from our Victory in 1966    .

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

:)

The only thing that I expect from my countrys' team is to beat the Germans in the group match... POLSKA GOLA!!! :D

The only title that comes to my mind when I think 'bout our football "Eagles" is... "Crises"  ;)

I think it could be Holland's year, they have the talent, just need to 'gel' better, when they have managed to qualify in the past, they have done very well.

That said, I think they have the toughest group to qualify from; Argentina of course plus Ivory Coast (best in Africa?) and Serbia/Montenegro, both of which have some talented induviduals :)

I am hoping that South Korea and Togo beat France :D

(To the tune of Flying Start...)

We took our place in the stand,
Behind the fans and brass band,
Playing "The Great Escape" constantly.
Was the journey here Hell? did you find your hotel?
Frisked by German airport security?

Fying Staff - We came for the game
In a plane from above
Flying Staff - Never want to see again
Another Rubber Glove...

And when the other team shines,
You'll hear the English fans whine
"What a c**p referee"
Rooney's fate sealed - his foot never quite healed
Now he's rolling around in agony.
Rooney's eyes full of tears they shine,
Cos he's out of the Cup and it's not even half-time,
We knew Sven had to choose his team, that's fine,
But there's none to volley the cross this time.

Greying Tarts - made our Rooney sing
In Amsterdam
Greying Tarts - then the papers found she was
Old as his Nan...

On roads after the match,
Now it's the time to run back,
The drunken fans roar constantly
They'll spend most of the night, finding someone to fight,
And that somebody damn well won't be me,
Two dozen incoherent curses they slur,
'Cos they've lost their minds in a can of la-ger,
They'll throw up on each others burberry menswear,
But there's none to carry them home, is there?

Wasn't it a Columbian player who kicked a goal for the other team, getting them kicked out of the competition ( 8 years ago? ) and the poor bugger was murdered when he returned home because the team had been funded by the underworld!

My good friend Tito who is Argentinian and a big MO fan, (we met through Dark Star) rang me every time Argentina played in the Cup 8 years ago and my son and I really got into the excitement of it all listening to his friends and family in the back ground singing and cheering. He even sent my son a soccer shirt which he wore proudly and was in danger of copping a beating for it too. The 2002 World Cup was a sad time for me because my father, a huge football fan, he supported Prague in the old days, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the beginning of 2000 and was told without surgery he would not last 18 months, and he said, "all I want to do is be around for the World Cup" which he didn't make it, so I followed the games in memory of him.

This year the Australians have made it into the Cup Finals for the first time in 32 (or was it 34) years so the Aussies are very excited. They just won a friendly against Greece last week. Unfortunately I can't get SBS on my television so have to find a way to be able to watch the games as they might possibly be on during the night. Of course this is all happening in Germany but I am assuming the whole thing will be over long before December.
