A while ago, I downloaded what seemed to be the X-Files theme, but by Mike Oldfield, from Napster. It basically sounds like the normal X-files theme with bits of Sentinel all through it...

What I want to know is did Mike write the X-Files theme first, or did he adapt it from the TV show?

The X-Files theme is written by Mark Snow (is that his name?). This version, called 'Tubular X', AFAIK is also written by Snow, but performed by Mike. It appears on the soundtrack of the X-Files movie.
