I got into MO in 1995, when I was still in high school - does that count? :p TSODE was my first album, my first time ever hearing Mike and it's still my favorite album. LUUUUUUV the way that guitar sounds on "Let There Be Light."

As for Mike's music appealing to younger people, a lot of the people I hang out with like the electronica stuff like TSODE and Tr3s Lunas. A girl I know LOVES Tr3s Lunas, and she can't even drive yet! ;)

I'm 31 now and i've been a fan since the age of five, when my dad introduced me to Tubular Bells.Since that day i was hooked and have bought every album since, being so young i had to save my pocket money and then i had to replace my collection with the introduction of cds in the 1980s and i have even gone to the extent of buying Tr3s Lunas from Germany because i couldn't wait for it to be released in england. When TSODE was released in94 i bought the european edit, at the same time as i was trying to buy it, so was someone else. It was the last copy and we ended up bidding for it, I eventually got it for forty five pounds, but what the hell it's worth every penny!!!! :D

It's not too late I think i'm the Youngest here (14.), but It is good to see young men listen Mike (not britney or something fucking else)
I started listening to mike when I'm 6-7.

I'm happy to see that there are younger fans as well! But I'm not surprised since Mike's music is very distinct, it has a timeless dimension. Talent youngsters will keep discovering Mike.
I did it 84, when someone recorded Discovery for me. I liked the songs, but what really trigged my interest was that strange long instrumental in the end ... a year later I was addicted to all his records.

I´m quite happy to see there are young people who likes Mike´s music...aged 11,12...that´s really great!

And being now 21,I´m feeling old...BTW,my first MO memory comes when I was only 10(me watching on TV William Tell Overture video).

I am 19 and have, over the course of 4 years amassed a complete Mike Oldfield collection. My Mum and Dad first introduced me to Oldfield long before that with "Tubular Bells" - but it wasn't until I bought "Songs Of Distant Earth" that I truly became a Mike-aholic....

Whatever else you have to say about Mike Oldfield you can't deny that he's an original. I admire the fact that he is constantly trying out new genres of music and that he has few qualms about ignoring the expectations of the public, the music press and even fans when developing his music. His music is constantly evolving and unpredictable. That's why I love 'im!

My four year old daughter has really got into MO recently (not surprising as one or other CD is usually on) - she likes nothing better than Heaven's Open or To Be Free blasting out at full volume. It's been interesting reading the recent long threads about what Mike's best stuff and seeing the tracks mentioned above being slated - if it get's a whole new generation hooked they can't be all that bad!

She also like's the beginning of Tubular Bells and loves dancing to it!

I have a five month old son who gets Mike Oldfield by default most days - started him on Ommadawn this evening.  :)
I'm 29 but got into all this kind of stuff when TSODE was released. My dad already had TB2 but that never interested me until some time afterwards. Over the last year, since a break of a few years, I've been re-building my MO collection - mainly the HDCDs for the Virgin period as that's all I can get hold of now. Added Heaven's Open yesterday and love it.
