ok this post is for you to put your fave mike oldfield melody from his entire works. This has to be one self contained melody which could be from a song or a part from the bigger pieces but has to be the one melody you could not live without.

Mine is the final africaheme of amarok.

So, what's yours?

Hard,difficult.

Voted for Sentinel from Tubular Bells II.
Guess why I'm Tati the Sentinel  ;)

I'd have to agree, as it was Sentinel of TBII that got me into Oldfield. The most meaningful track for me has since changed to The Bell, but I suppose I should honour this track for the reason prementioned.  :D

Everyone's interpretation is different, and everyone has a right to that opinion. There is no "right" one, I am adding this post to communicate my thoughts to share them with like-minded souls who will be able to comment in good nature.

This is hard, but right now I like Summit Day very much.
This is a melody with a capital M, its not a riff or a piece of lyrics, its a speaking instrumental, a statement of great joy.
(although kinda melancholic)
One thing is for sure: My favourites will change all the time, but most of them will be composed by MO. :)

I'm at a loss on this one. There are so many that are so good.

Sentinel, Introduction (TB opening theme), Pictures in the Dark (all of it) and the chorus to "Islands" - from "When the night's on fire..." onwards. :D

QE2 from QE2 - I'm playing it this very minute.

And Sentinel from TBII because it started my love for Mikes music all over again all those year ago.

It's a close tie between the mellow flute melody halfway through Ommadawn pt 2 or In the Pool. Everyone I've played In the Pool to remembers the melody instantly. It's really infectous.

With very few exceptions, Mike allways have good melodies in his songs. I can only think of one exception; Waldberg (the peak). What went wrong there?

Best Mikes melody for me is that I am listening just.
I am boggle at excellence, stateliness - lucky miss !

Im listening Hergest Ridge just, part 2, outset and end are
beautiful.  Next I listening often Amarok, TBII, L+S - Surfing, Tears of an angel, Nightshade (gradely drums).

Mikes melodies are absolute, neverending form beauty !

There are some fine tunes to choose from, but I don't have much hesitation in settling on 'Let There Be Light'.

Incantations part 1 -- the beginning... intro passes... then the violins... and then the FLUTES. Here you go. It never leaves your head, once planted. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Apart from that, Sentinel (it also got me into Oldfield).

For me, it is the forlorn sounding theme from The Wind chimes:

na, na na na, na na na na, na na na na naa na na-na...........

:)

It is played 3 times, I currently can't get it out of my head!

Others are QE2, towards the end, and finale

I'll have to agree with you on this, although sometimes my opinion changes (but only to other sections of Incantations). It's about 3 minutes of the best musical bliss.
