I'm putting a compilation of my own work together for a colleague who has some interesting conatcts.

In the last year, I have made more than 100 songs, so it is hard, certainly from my point of view to choose what might be the best.

I'm posting a selection of 10 of my favourite pieces here, and I'd like your opinions, no matter how brutal and honest! We all have different tastes, so not everything will appeal to everyone, but I'm generelly interested in what other people think on hearing the tracks for (what may be) the first time.

Thanks!

Myth

Red Sun Rising

Corridors

Can I suggest a couple of tips?  Of course, you can ignore this if you wish - just do what works for you.  ;)

1. Think of an album as a single body of work rather than a collection of unrelated tracks.  This doesn't mean you should merge your music into one long track.  What it means is you could try finding tracks that are similar, lead into each other well, or build up to a grand finale of some sort.

I find this gives an album much more strength than if you just choose some of your best tracks without thinking about how to order them.  Even if every single person likes all of the 10 tracks you've posted in this topic, it doesn't necessarily mean they all belong on the same album.  Create something that flows well!

2. Posting a lot of tracks all at once is less likely to get feedback than if you post your tracks slowly, and wait for comments on each one before moving on to the next.  I haven't listened yet, and I may listen to your tracks at some point - but seeing so many tracks posted in the same topic is rather off-putting.

If you don't agree, perhaps look at Langdana's topic in this forum.  He has posted an entire album, but one track at a time - the first track was posted in February 2006 and the last track was posted in April 2007.  That's a long time and I do understand you may not want to wait that long, but the topic has had a lot of activity.  You may find that a similar method works for you too.  Who knows? :)

Hmm, some good point there, which I hadn't considered. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, Alex.

Sorry I haven't had much time to listen to your tracks, but school revision is pretty time-consuming.

First, I have to say I love some of the work you've produced, and Tomorrow is a fantastic Album.

I must also say that I agree with Moz and that you may need to choose similar-sounding songs rather than compilation of diverse ones. You do have a few concept Albums, which I am a fan of, such as Industrial Sky, and the music flows brilliantly in them. So, my tip would be choose one (or maybe two) of your Albums which you feel would send the best sort of representation of the kind of music you create.

What I would do is take two conflicting styles of music and present them both, as this will show two kinds of music you are good at creating. Personally, I loved Industrial Sky and Tomorrow as Albums, and think these would be the best representations of your work.

I loved Industrial Sky because of the bleak, Blade Runner-style it had. Tomorrow was excellent, because it had a warm and, at times, very emotional appeal, which is why I thought the title track itself was one of the best individual tracks you have ever created. It was very warm, and there were clear emotional peaks which I loved.

Hope this has helped. Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for your comments - your compliments really mean a lot :-)

It's iinteresting to read your references - if I had to choose one album that I regard as my best, it would still be Industrial Sky. It's still quite rough round the edges as it was only my third project - I may revisit it one day and tweak things.

Anyway it's a good point you have about choosing the songs.

Thanks guys - this has given me something to think about...
