Hello,

Im a lover of music from the likes of Morricone and Oldfield, Jean-Michael Jarre and Dave Gilmour.
I just wanted to add another name to the list that may interes you, Rob Dougan.

Rob is famed for his track 'Clubbed To Death' which appeared on The Matrix film and also in a Caffrey's commercial way back. He has recently done 2 songs for The Matrix Reloaded film and has a new album coming out on June 16th, 'Furious Angels'.
There is a cool media player here if you want to listen to some samples: http://www.bandbuilder.com/robdougan/player.php?ref_code=%20

Im pretty confident that if you take the time to listen to Robs work you will be impressd.

Michael.

P.S. Another one of his is on the Audi A8 currently in the UK.

My opinion: great music, bad vocals.......
Sorry.

Yeh,

Completely agree with you on that. In some tracks his vocals work well but on the whole its not great. His inspirations and influences are Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits so no surprises there then,

Michael.

Ahaa.. thats interesting I always wondered who was behind that track used in the Matrix, its superb. I haven't heard the soundtrack to Reloaded yet (other than seeing the film) but some of it sounds good, I already have the stuff done by Fluke, an awsome dance band if you've never heard them, very dark almost primordial sounding eletronica.

Clubbed to Death is awesome, so is Chateau. Some time ago I downloaded some of his other songs but didn't really like them. Either I was unlucky or this guy makes mainly rather poor dance music. I wish he made an album in the same style as the tracks from Matrix.

And since we're on the subject of Matrix Reloaded :) I highly recommend the score from that movie (2cd cd of the soundtrack) - it's great.

edit - hmm, seems like furious angels soundtrack is in fact the same style, sounds great but yeah, the vocals are pretty weak. :/

I'm really confused about this because the album originally came out in 1998 - he's re-releasing it now? There's going to be a 2cd version but it actually has one of the songs missing from the original (Clubbed To Death 2)? And what is Chateau?

Hey Man in the Rain,

Yeh, very confusing isn't it?

Basically the Furious Angels single was out in 1998  and the Furious Angles album was originally released in the UK on 1st July 2002. It will be re-released on 16th June in the UK this year with instrumentals and an enhanced section.

It was released in the US with a bonus disc with 10 instrumentals on June 3rd 2003. Its definitely worth getting because if you don't like the mans voice, the instrumentals are stunning on their own. Its powerful music and the only music I think can match stuff from Jean-Michel Jarre and Oldfield right now.

Also, the Furious Angels single is getting re-released on the 30th of this month in the UK.

'Chateau' is a song which features in The Matrix Reloaded and was especially made for the film by request from the Wachowskis. 'Clubbed To Death 2' featured on the Special Edition UK release last year and will feature in it on the 16th too.
Also unlike other artists, he often comes onto his official forums and answers questions.

Hope that helps you out,

Michael.

Ahhh, thanks for clearing things up, that's a big help. Actually I've taken a look at the official site and noticed you post there!!! I'm definitely interested in getting this album, and personally I don't have any problems with his voice at all.

Although I don't think he's the only artist that can match Jarre and Oldfield at the moment (Sigur Ros spring to mind as an artist that can actually surpass their current music), but Rob Dougan is cool in my book  :)

Thats cool to hear buddy.
I'm only 18 and love artists like Jarre, Oldfield, Gilmour, Morricone and find Dougans work just breath-taking. Im gripped on his album.
Sigur Ros is good, his untitled CD is my favourite, a very different style to Robs and their videos are actually quite stylish and slow, I like it.

Yeh, I would certainly try get Robs album on the 16th. Im buying his and TB2003, its my dads 50th so money has to be spent ;)

Talking about Jarre, did you hear Rendez-Vous 2 at the UEFA Cup Final , stunning piece of work!

Michael.

P.S. My dad used to work at STV and was a cameraman when Oldfield performed as a young boy, bit of info for you there. You actually see my dad in one of the camera shots getting a close up of Mike.
