In a recent thread about copyrights, someone said to me it's all pretty much hogwash unless "The artist is harmed" I think he meant financially. These folks will check in on this thread I'm sure. ex member 419 Group: Members Posts: 1177 Joined: April 2008 Posted: Feb. 01 2010, 19:05 Hi Alloria, as Jim said YouTube is a shared video site where lots of MO fans have uploaded original videos of Mike's singles and concerts. As long as Mike is acknowledged as the rightful owner of his work there shouldn't be a problem. Mike is the only artist I know of where its free to download and upload material. The main fear I have is that Youtube decides that it is copyright protected, and I am forced to remove the soundtrack from my video, which would ruin it. Sure people upload copyrighted videos all the time and people frequently use copyrighted music in their productions. As a result, some folks end up with their entire channels banned (Hifi, did you eventually get it back? My musician bf knows of someone who lost his channel forever--involved 45's) and sometimes (e.g., "Miss U" by Steven Wilson awhile back) the visual portion remains but the audio is stripped. Obtaining copyright is a royal(ty oops my bad) pain. Copyright ownership in both the music and publishing world is changing, with authors often retaining more rights, but in Mike's case it is probably a matter of getting permission from the relevant record company. -------------- "No such thing as destiny; only choices exist."
